NIH (NCCIH) Releases 2012 Survey Results for Natural Health Approaches & Usage
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health of the National Institutes of Health just released how people are using integrative products and practices among adults and children! Take a look at some of the highlights: More people are practicing yoga. More people use complementary medicine (to complement their conventional medical care), not alternative medicine (in lieu of conventional medicine) There’s a slight but significant increase in use of Naturopathy, Acupuncture and Homeopathy. Here’s the full report: here. I love this report, obviously, as I work with clients using the philosophies and practices of all the modalities of Integrative Medicine. This report is limited to what we, as Americans, are using, but not their effectiveness rates, and that’s what’s important to me. But I think that report would be difficult to measure, at least with what I’ve seen working with clients. Each of the modalities is different and unique and all focused on healing the body… so it’s not as much the goal of healing as it’s how each modality approaches health. And the deciding factor of effectiveness has always been how a person experiences their illness or disease. I think of it as a roadmap, we each have our own. We went from Point A (health) to Point Z (ill health) and each took a different road to get there. For some, it was a sharp zig zag of trauma, for others, it was a smooth winding path of deterioration. To heal those sicknesses and diseases, we have to retrace some of our steps going back and specifically healing damage done at certain points in our lives and our bodies....Why I Don’t Lead Short Term Detoxes
It’s that time of the year again! 3 Day Cleanses! 10 Day Detoxes! 11 Day Smoothie Challenges! 15 Day Juicing Rebellions! Sugar. Gluten. White flour. Meat. White foods. Anything you chew… Yeah, look, they just don’t work for my clients. I mean, they may help you start tasting some real food again, like the bombs in the now uncoated sugar-frosted sugar bombs, but in the long run, they don’t seem to work for the real chronic health issues my clients suffer from on a daily basis. Why don’t I lead short term detoxes? Well, put it this way: if you plan out a rocking awesome road trip across the US, you pack the car after getting new windshield wipers, fresh oil and a full tank of gas, why would you start the car and leave it running the driveway for 2 weeks (or until you run out of gas and/or burn out your engine)? You don’t get to where you were planning on going. You never get the see the Fields Museum in Chicago, the largest ball of yarn in Cawker City, Kansas or smell the inviting aroma of the world famous Ghirardelli chocolate at Pier 39 in San Francisco. And you never end up truly pain-free and full of energy. Short term detoxes and cleanses are like prepping for that journey but never getting there. Work with me and I’ll get you there with a 5-step actionable plan to relieving pain and daily fatigue so you can eat real food anywhere, know what gives you energy and keeps you pain-free and never do a cleanse, diet, detox or...« Older Entries
